Review of Lone Pine, California

Living In Lone Pine
Star Rating - 8/13/2016
I’ve lived here in Lone Pine 10 years. I find the people here are generally friendly. The local store, Joseph’s, is well stocked and seems to enjoy brisk business. I have no concerns about shopping there.
The town is vibrant, especially during the summer time. Home owners and local businesses are seen to be constantly improving their properties.
Every year there’s a reliable flow of tourist traffic from Germany, France, Japan and locals from the San Francisco and the Los Angeles areas. This place is busy.
Don’t focus too narrowly on Lone Pine itself. You’d be cheating yourself to do so. Lone Pine is really an integral part of the greater Owens Valley community which includes Olancha, Independence, Big Pine and Bishop. The Owens Valley along with Death Valley is the primary reason that Inyo County is rated so highly by the United States Department of Agriculture’s natural amities index. That’s why people come here.
I love it here. I like traveling to Bishop to do shopping. I visit Mammoth all year long. Locally I go to Whitney Portal for hiking, Panamint Springs for the crazy sparrows who will hop on the table to grab your food and Stove Pipe Wells to look at all the crazy tourists. It’s fun here.
Driving up and down highway 395 is a pleasure compared to Los Angeles. All the way to Reno the high mountain scenery can’t be beat. Its 4.5 hours to Reno or 4.5 hours to Vegas and that through Death Valley. Take your pick.

You are probably familiar with Tehachapi. Do you think that it snows more in Lone Pine or Tehachapi? I live in Tehachapi. I love the snow and hate the ice. Fortunately I am well padded where I land at least thrice a winter! Does the ice melt quickly or slowly in Lone Pine? Thank you for your comment on Lone Pine. I have been thinking about moving thee at least in the winter.
